Negotiation Masterplan

At our conference "The Negotiation Masterplan", we are focussing on difficult negotiations in complex situations.

Mikuláš Dzurinda

Mikuláš Dzurinda

Mikuláš Dzurinda is the former Prime Minister of Slovakia and now heads the Martens Centre, thinktank of the European People’s Party (EPP), the largest party in the European Parliament and the European Commission. The Martens Centre is regarded to be the world’s 10th most influential political thinktank. Mr Dzurinda is also an active advisor to the Ukrainian government that strives to support the reform process in the country.

Throughout his political career, Mr Dzurinda has achieved a series of negotiation successes. First he united 5 opposition parties to drive a powerful nationalist regime out of office in 1998. Then he negotiated the settlements following the establishment of an independent Slovak Republic after its split from Czechoslovakia. Dzurinda also led the successful talks for Slovakia to join the OECD, the EU, the NATO, and the Euro zone. Most notably, Dzurinda pushed through far-reaching economic reforms that made Slovakia the highest growing economy in Europe, “Investor’s Paradise” according to Forbes, and the world’s top business reformer country according to World Bank. Under his leadership, Slovakia attracted record foreign direct investments, making it the world’s leading car-producing country per capita.

A member of the Leadership Council for Concordia in New York, Dzurinda maintains a strong political network in the United States and Europe. In 2007, he was awarded the F.A. Hayek International Prize for reforms and fight against bureaucracy.

Santiago Calatrava

Santiago Calatrava

Dr. Santiago Calatrava is one of the world’s most influential architects. Currently working on building the world’s tallest tower in Dubai, the Swiss-Spanish architect is recognized for his iconic, sculptural buildings such as the World Trade Center station in New York, the Olympic Sports Complex in Athens and the University of Zurich Law School’s library.

Calatrava puts emphasis on the fact that he is not only an architect and an engineer, but also an artist. He is known for his futuristic structures and forms that are often inspired by living organisms. His design of Zurich's Stadelhofen railway station was the starting point of his international career. Calatrava’s designs suggest stylized natural objects—waves, wings, or sun-bleached skeletons, with rows of white concrete ribs curved into distorted parabolic arches.

After his PhD in Engineering from ETH Zurich, Calatrava received numerous honorary doctors from international universities, including those of Tel Aviv, Mexico City, Lima, Liège, Madrid, Atlanta, and Columbia University. In 2004, Calatrava was awarded the Gold Medal of the American Institute of Architects.

At the Negotiation Conference 2018, Dr. Calatrava will explore how a Masterplan combines art and knowledge into a monument.
