Microsoft Inspire is the annual event of the year for the tech giant. It is a celebration of networking, innovation and knowledge-sharing with hundreds of sessions and keynote addresses of inspirational speakers and Microsoft executives. With over 16,000 attendees Microsoft Inspire is where the world of tech meets.
The Schranner Negotiation Institute is honored to have participated in Microsoft’s flagship conference through a by-invitation-only speech of the Institute’s CEO, Matthias Schranner in Washington D.C., on July 10th.
In his address “Learn from a hostage negotiator” Mr. Schranner shared his insights on how to deal with unjustified demands, how to defend against unfair tactics and how to negotiate under pressure, amongst others.
We would like to extend our gratitude to Microsoft for the hospitality as well as the opportunity to be part of their inspirational event and we are looking forward to meeting everyone again next year.
Key takeaways - Matthias Schranner, Microsoft Inspire conference
Never offer a compromise
Don't delay a negotiation
Don't bring in the boss too early or too often - it makes you look weak in terms of your negotiation abilities.
If you don't get what you want, don't start talking about consequences for the individual or their business:
Doing this blocks their options and your own
Never commit yourself in the beginning of the negotiation:
Never say 'yes', 'no' or 'but' too quickly
