Now is the right time
The former German Chancellor Helmut Kohl had a very simple rule for his relationship management. He always called people when they were in a bad way. He said in an interview that most people only ever call if there is a success to celebrate or when congratulations are in order; nobody ever calls when somebody is faring badly or finds themself stuck in the middle of a crisis.
He built relationships during crises, offered help and created trust. We are currently experiencing a crisis, the magnitude of which the world has never seen before. It will be a long time before we are back to normal.
Now is the right time to build the kinds of relationships that you will need for successful negotiating.Trust develops when people go through fire and water together.
